Red Bull X-Alps 2019 day 1

Day 1 involved a brisk walk from Salzburg up to the Gaisberg, a rather short flight in cloudy conditions, an extended walk after a premature landing, and two hike and glides before finishing the day on the side of the highway in tents about 20km short of the Wagrain turn point 2.

Pretty happy to get off the hill after decent rain, as soon as the white out cleared I was gone. Feel a bit bad for the Lebanese athlete who helped me get my open glider and harness over the barbed wire fence, even though it cost him half a minute every second was vital. It was cold up there so didn't want to miss the window! Launch video later – no cloud flying involved, even though you can see it quickly went into cloud behind me. Ben and Mum raced up the road with dry shoes and socks, now hoping the drizzle backs off again for a final glide. #redbullxalps
